After last weekend’s trip to visit my folks, my 7 day mileage hasn’t been great. But I live on a major country road, so night running is frightening. The thought of going to the gym while resolution-mania is still going on was frightening to me. I’ve been going to the gym plenty, and it was starting to make me pretty miserable.
So I walked my dog 3 miles today. It’s not much, but it still counted as day 93 of my walk-run-elliptical streak.
While walking on my lumpy bumpy frozen (but no snow) trails is great for my joints, it’s not great cardio for me. So to supplement my cardio, I tried a zumba DVD. I loved doing zumba when I was part of a gym that offered classes.

It was fun, but it didn’t get my heart rate as consistently high as I was expecting it to. Possibly because I’m no dancer and couldn’t really keep up with all the moves. BUT, I was excited to do it. Which is a lot more than I can say about heading to the gym when it’s busy. I can’t stand watching people practicing bad form on the weights or burning themselves out on cardio.
First Half marathon of 12.1/2.12 is coming up this weekend. It’s an indoor race, with a pretty steep time limit, but I’m excited to start this challenge I set for myself.
Sometimes you don’t realise what you are missing until it’s right in front of your nose. I don’t remember when the last time I went to see my parents was, but it was too long ago. Even the border official gave me grief for my poor attendance at my parent’s table. I only went home [...]

Men may want to avoid this blog post all together. When I was a competitive athlete in college, we didn’t get to chose when we worked out. Our team needed us. Fever was the criteria for if you would show up in the morning. Even when you were pulled because of injury you would have [...]

After the alumni row on Saturday I was eager to get back out with my old teammates and do some more non impact activity. So last night 10 alumni showed up at the boathouse to row. That’s right, ten – nine rowers, one coxwain. Other than the single, most rowing boats require even numbers. So [...]

I spent 8 years of my life rowing both in high school and in college. Rowing is seriously destructive to the skin on your hands. When we were in high school we used to joke that rowers had to date other rowers because our hands were so gross that no one else would want to [...]
