After the Queen City Icebreaker Ergatta I had to rush over to Concord to run a 4 miler. The 4 miler was organized to raise money for our local community college’s cross country team.
It was cold and windy (it was February). The course was nice and flat and included an out and back on NHTI’s campus. But I enjoyed the race at my own pace. I finished 4 miles in under 10 minute miles and got an award for being second in my age group (although it doesn’t really count because 1st and 3rd place overall were in my age group). I wouldn’t have placed in the filly category at all. There were some fast women out there.
I was most happy about my coworker. She was inspired by my weight loss to try out the race too. She and her husband did the 4 miles together in 52 minutes, without training for it. I was so proud of her for doing it!
I’m not sure if it was because I did a high lactic acid race (the erg sprint) indoors before doing a very cold slow and steady race but my lungs were so sore after. But it was still fun to do two races in a row.
