A Runner’s Glossary – BQ

Disclaimer: This is a series that will occur whenever I come across a running term that made me scratch my head and wonder whenever I came across it. I will try to describe the word the best I can. But I’m warning you, I’m an amateur runner, not an expert. BQ – Boston Qualifier The [...]

Training

First Group Track Day

I am not a Spring Rain person. Summer thunderstorms, bring them on. Snow storms with feet of snow, I can handle that. But 38 *F with wind and rain makes me want to weep. So I haven’t been  getting the kind of mileage I would like to see this late in the month. I was [...]

Shoes

Superhero

Some days I feel like a superhero at work. I spend the morning walking around in 4 inch heels. And within a few minutes I transform into a running machine. I love my daily break when I take the time to do it. I love the feel of my running shoes after wearing towering heels [...]

Race Prep

Countdown to that First Ultra-Marathon

In a little over a month, I will be attempting something that seemed impossible to me until lately. I will be entering a World that I have watched from the sidelines for the last two years. I will be attempting my first Ultra-Marathon before I have ever tried a Marathon. Am I nervous? A little [...]

Gear

One Year Gear Review – Standard Poodle

When I picked up the 2 month old Standard poodle, he didn’t look like much of a runner. He was tiny, fluffy, shy. His legs were only a dozen inches long. He got tired after a one mile walk. He wasn’t much of a runner, but then again, neither was I. The reason I was [...]

Places to run: Mont-St-Hilaire Quebec

One of the things I have always loved about running is the ability to explore various natural places at a slightly faster pace. I love being able to take my time, stop and take pictures and enjoy the scenery. A couple weeks ago I was in Mont-St-Hilaire Quebec for a family event. My parents had [...]

Inspiration

Some Sunday Inspiration

My friend and rowing teammate Hadley once sent me a bunch of her favorite inspirational quotes. They aren’t necessarily running related but I hope they inspire you in some way. “Today you can make your life significant and worthwhile.  The present is yours to do with as you will.” -Grenville Kleiser “Work, continuous work and [...]

Running Skirts

Running Skirt Tryout – #2 Atalanta

The Good: I’m in love! The Bad: The company’s owner is liquidating her skirt stock so she may pursue other opportunities. Skirt? What skirt? These are simply the most comfortable running bottoms I have ever worn. They are soft they are comfortable. I want to wear them all the time. And I wore them two [...]

Races

Power of Prevention 5k Run

What kind of girl goes into Boston at 6am to run a 5k? A girl who has to drop off her husband at the airport at 4am. I also dragged my brother along so he could take pictures. Note: I’ve been very pink lately. Race: AACE Prevention 5k Date: April 24, 2010 Location: Boston, MA [...]

Races

NHTI/Delta Dental 5k

Remember how I think that NHTI’s Cross Country coach is awesome? Here’s a picture of him giving us pre-race instructions as I raced another race in Concord on NHTI’s campus. Race: NHTI/Delta Dental 5k Date: April 23, 2010 Location: Concord, NH Distance: 5k My stopwatch: 25:25 Official Result: 25:34 (a new PR) 177/391 Total 15/33 [...]

Miriam the Filly Runner
I'm a 28 year old ex-Northeastern-rower who is finding a new love for physical fitness in the form of running. I love running long distances (even aiming for Ultramarathons) on both road and trail. I've toyed with barefoot but mostly go with the minimalistic shoes. I may not be very fast, but I'm enjoying competing against myself. I'm Canadian but love living in New Hampshire with my hubby, and our Poodle and cats. When not running, I'm usually being a nerdy engineering type.

Cooper the Blonde Poodle
Cooper, who's registered name is French Fries and Gravy, is a 1 year old Cream Standard Poodle (he's on the small side of his breed). He thinks that living with two runners is fantastic, as long as he gets to tag along. His longest run to date has been 22 miles off leash, so he probably did significantly more than that. Coop's non-running adventures are often documented in my other blog Life with a Blonde Poodle.
