Distance: 4 miles

I’ve only been running again since October and I never raced when I did it as a cross-training for rowing. So most of my races have been personal records simply because I manage to finish them. I actually have not repeated a lot of distances yet, but I was really looking forward to running another 4 miler because my 4 mile PR had a significantly slower pace than my first half marathon a few weeks later.

I headed over to Salisbury for the 3rd race of the Will Run for Beer Series (the second I was running in). We met at the runner’s circle sports bar and I collected my bib and T-shirt.

The race was timed by D-tag. I love having a chip time but I hate the waste of disposable tags.

The weather was hot for April, 80 degrees F. I wasn’t really ready for the warm weather. My hamstring was still bugging me a bit so I took the start a little lighter than I normally would have. I got quickly pretty quickly but had to skip the first water station because of people stopping and blocking the way. I actually very nearly slammed into a woman on the second one because she stopped so suddenly when I was just trying to get a cup off the table.

After I got my cup of water (at almost mile 3) I was feeling so much better that I started passing people. I managed to break my P.R. by almost 3 minutes as I broke 35 minutes by tag time.

The post race included much loved watermelon and being part of the “will run for beer” series a post race beer party.

Some of the Cast

Miriam the Filly Runner
I'm a 28 year old ex-Northeastern-rower who is finding a new love for physical fitness in the form of running. I love running long distances (even aiming for Ultramarathons) on both road and trail. I've toyed with barefoot but mostly go with the minimalistic shoes. I may not be very fast, but I'm enjoying competing against myself. I'm Canadian but love living in New Hampshire with my hubby, and our Poodle and cats. When not running, I'm usually being a nerdy engineering type.

Cooper the Blonde Poodle
Cooper, who's registered name is French Fries and Gravy, is a 1 year old Cream Standard Poodle (he's on the small side of his breed). He thinks that living with two runners is fantastic, as long as he gets to tag along. His longest run to date has been 22 miles off leash, so he probably did significantly more than that. Coop's non-running adventures are often documented in my other blog Life with a Blonde Poodle.
