Hiking Mount Washington

I had intended for this post to be quite picture heavy and I had taken a lot of pictures with my cell phone to support what was going to be a pretty wordy report. But my laptops have decided to be difficult trapping the pictures on one, and making typing difficult on the other. Our [...]

Getting back at it.

I’ve had to take it very easy since I’ve realized that I have a stress fracture. Overdoing it can lead to days of throbbing and aching. For a while I was dependent on Tylenol to sleep. So I decided to take it completely easy. I’d been feeling pretty good so I decided to do some [...]

One Year Gear Review – Standard Poodle

When I picked up the 2 month old Standard poodle, he didn’t look like much of a runner. He was tiny, fluffy, shy. His legs were only a dozen inches long. He got tired after a one mile walk. He wasn’t much of a runner, but then again, neither was I. The reason I was [...]

Celebrating Spring on Cannon Mountain

We have had a strange winter here in New Hampshire. We had some great snow in December, then lost most of it in the January thaw and February rains. Even the White mountains had a relatively light snow year. Most transplants are not complaining, but I am. I didn’t move to a Northern State so [...]

Skating Rinks for Trails?

I love winter. I do NOT love winter rain. This Sunday was a real demonstration of why I hate winter rain. Our trails had just gotten nice and snowy. They were packed down. Then the rain came, along with the January thaw and turned the trails to this: There was usually a swath a few [...]

Races

Freezing in Buffalo

Since mid-October, I’ve been running. Well at first it was more walking than running. I would go back to a walk as soon as the pain in my feet got bad. And I started being very carful with what I ate too. I was under a lot of stress so I was careful to make [...]

Adam's Running

Pittsfield Peaks 2009

We spent Saturday in Pittsfield, Vermont.  Adam was racing the 53 mile, 14,000 feet of elevation gain ultramarathon known as Pittsfield Peaks. Cooper was thrilled to find Adam after waiting for him at at Aid Station. A lot of Ultrarunning is actually walking. At least at Adam and his friends’ levels. Adam seemed to be [...]

Miriam the Filly Runner
I'm a 28 year old ex-Northeastern-rower who is finding a new love for physical fitness in the form of running. I love running long distances (even aiming for Ultramarathons) on both road and trail. I've toyed with barefoot but mostly go with the minimalistic shoes. I may not be very fast, but I'm enjoying competing against myself. I'm Canadian but love living in New Hampshire with my hubby, and our Poodle and cats. When not running, I'm usually being a nerdy engineering type.

Cooper the Blonde Poodle
Cooper, who's registered name is French Fries and Gravy, is a 1 year old Cream Standard Poodle (he's on the small side of his breed). He thinks that living with two runners is fantastic, as long as he gets to tag along. His longest run to date has been 22 miles off leash, so he probably did significantly more than that. Coop's non-running adventures are often documented in my other blog Life with a Blonde Poodle.
